Dude, get to bed.” Dean groaned from his bed on the other side of the room.
I looked up from Sammy’s laptop “What?” I zoned in suddenly.
“Get to bed, if Dad gets back and sees you still up he’ll-“
“What?” I interrupted” Freak? I’m 20 Dean, if I wanted to I could go get a job as a stripper and there isn’t a god damned thing anyone could do about it.” I laughed.
“Why, ‘cause you’re an asshole?” Dean smiled, remembering the Dennis Leary song.
“Now, ‘cause I got nuclear eheheh weapons.” I chuckled, rolling my eyes.
I woke up with a start, soaked in sweat. “You alright?” Dean looked up from a book.
“Fine” I nodded. I doubt he believed it, but he left it at that, too painful for us to talk to each other. Ever since Sam and Dean had been killed in hunts it just wasn’t like it used to be. I being Sam’s twin sister it was worse- Dad couldn’t look at me without getting a misty look in his eyes. I got out of bed and grabbed my coat, Dad didn’t ask me where I was going, and there was no point. I never answered anyway dragged my feet along the ground, the moist feeling in the air a warning to everyone that it was going to rain.
But it didn’t matter to me. Visions of Sam and Dean dying crashed over me, I collapsed to my knees with a sob…
“Sammy! Move it! Dean needs backup!” Dad bellowed.
Sam was a bit busy with fending off half-dozen vampires or so. I ran up instead. Dean was already hurt-maybe he knew that he wasn’t going to make it. Maybe not but he kept on fighting. He wasn’t going to stop for anything, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to stop for something as stupid as a gash in the leg. I watched one of the vampires pull out a machete of their own. Whose scream was louder I don’t know, Dean gave a loud bellow as the knife entered his chest, he continued to yell as he slashed down three more vampires, then collapsed backwards, he gave a funny turn in the air and I saw his face, illuminated by moonlight. A smug grin was set firmly on his distant face. I screamed and then I yelled his name, which drew the attention of the three vampires about to move in on him. I killed them quickly, running the whole time. Dean needed me, that was all that mattered.
I slammed down to the ground on my knees and lifted up his head. He looked up at me with a weak smile “I’m done for Ailidh, don’t bother trying to save me now.” he said, his voice barely a whisper.
“No, no Dean. You’re fine. I’m gonna help you and you’ll be better in no time.” I shook my head and his eyes closed slowly “No,” I sobbed, pulling him as close to me as I could, hearing the clashing of Sam and Dad killing the last vamps. “You promised me Dean.” I cried “You said you’d always be there.” I rocked back and forth “YOU PROMISED!” I screamed, shaking him fiercely. “DEAN! YOU PROMSIED!” my yells died out and I started sobbing as heavily as I ever had before.
There were footsteps behind me, not Dad and not Sam. I pulled the knife from Dean’s chest and whipped around with a scream and killed the vampire that had snuck up on us. I shook with anger. There were no more tears; I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
“Ailidh!” Sam yelled, he came running up the small hill. He spotted Dean lying, motionless on the ground “Dean?!” he ran over to me “What’s wrong with him Ailidh?!”…
The clouds that had rolled in gave a loud rumble of thunder as I sobbed into the ground of the parking lot. I had given up…
“It’s real simple Johnny-boy, do as I say or this pretty little thing dies.” The demon pulled me into view and I fought against the grip.
Sam and Dead started forwards but caught themselves.
“Don’t listen to him Dad!” I cried “Don’t do it!”
The demon punched me as hard as he could, it sent me reeling backwards into the wall and I slid to the ground.
“Ailidh!” Sam called, taking a step forward. He turned back “Dad, just give them what they want” he said
“I can’t” Dad stared at me painfully.
“Why the hell not?! This isn’t some mindless innocent bystander! This is Ailidh we’re talking about here!” Sam yelled.
“Because I don’t have what they want!” Dad yelled back.
“Now, now boys, let’s play nice.” the demon laughed “And John, lying?” he made a tutting noise “Shame on you” he said patronizingly.
“Just let her go!” Sam yelled.
“Fine, I let her go…” he picked me up by the scruff of my neck and tossed me towards them “But I take something too. Anything I want.”
Two second later Sam cried out in pain. “No!” I yelled “No, please no!”
Sam started falling to the ground and I caught him.
The demon cackled and disappeared. Sam twitched on the ground in pain, me and Dad stood by helplessly as he died slowly and painfully. Dad rested his hand on Sam’s “I was always so proud of you son.” he said quietly.
I cried silently and kissed his forehead “I’ll see you down there, huh?” I raked my hand through his hair gently. “Don’t worry; Dean’ll be down there waiting for you, waiting to help you out. He’s probably made a few good friends, huh?”
I could have sworn that he smiled and laughed but Dad just said that it was him dying. We carried Sam back to the car and for the second time I sat with a dead brothers head in my lap. I hugged him close to me as Dad drove the closest forest…
Both of my brothers taken, but not me. Both of them killed in front of my eyes, yet I was still spared. We had argued a lot, sure but I still missed them so much. The gravel bit into my legs, side and cheek as I sobbed even harder. I felt so much but couldn’t say a word. I was so tired, but I couldn’t sleep. It was like I was on the edge of something much too deep.
I was screaming inside and I couldn’t let any of it out. The sky was split with a jagged piece of laughing and the rain poured down. I still didn’t car. I wasn’t like I was going to die from it. All of the good times rolled around in my head and I stood up. The ran made it’s way down my face and mingled with the tears. I could feel arms around me, hugging me tightly and I looked over to see a rather real-looking Sam. Another set of hands wiped away the tears from my face and I hardly had to look to know that it was Dean.
I was scared to think they were real, even more scared that weren’t or that they would leave. I was clinging to a shred of hope that wouldn’t let me choose. There had been darkness growing inside me but as my brothers comforted me with hugs and just plain resting their hand on my shoulder I could feel it leaving me. I laughed a little and it came out more like a chocked sob.
“Heyy little sister” Dean’s voice sounded tinny, like it was being broadcasted from far away. But he looked like he always had. Freckles and all.
I couldn’t from comprehensible words so I just hugged them back. “Don’t leave me again, please” I whispered finally.
“We never did” Sam said.
“And we won’t.” Dean added “UNlees you’re, like, getting dressed or something ‘cause then I’m outta there.” he smiled.
I laughed a little “How is this possible?” I asked, the thunder drowing out most of my sentence.
“You’ve got yourself two bonified guardian angels.” Dean smirked,
“Seems like someone loved us enough to pray and pray and pray that we got into heaven.” Sam looked to the motel room.
“Dad?” I turned around and saw him in the window and for the first time I saw him as a vulnerable person. “Will he be able to see you?”
“NO he won’t.” Sam shook his head.
“Will I?” I asked
“Yes.” Sam smiled down at me “Well, not all the time, most of the time though. Like 95% of the time one or both of us will be around.”
I turned back to them “I love you guys, you know that, right?”
Sam and Dean smiled “Yeah, we know that.” they said in unison.
“I missed you guys so much now I can’t believe you’re bere.” I looked at the two of them, my heart making a loud thud as I realized that it could all be a lie in the morning.
“We weren’t gone, we were always a part of you/” Dean said.
Sam laughed “Okay, wow! After school special much?”
I rolled my eyes as the two of them started bickering but the smile on my face couldn’[t have gotten any bigger, and I looked up at the sky. I took in a deep breath and shouted out a loud thank you. The boys stopped and looked at me like I was a freak. But that didn’t matter to me. They were back, and I was happy. That was the only thing that mattered.
